Michael J Shippam

Michael brings extraordinary skill and experience to the firm. These are focused in the areas of: major gifts; comprehensive campaigns; analytics and bench marking; performance metrics; prospect management and prospect strategy; board development; strategic planning; organizational effectiveness; and donor relations.

Michael has over 35 years of fundraising experience that encompasses leadership annual giving; major and principle gifts; regional campaign management; donor recognition; data analysis; and budget development. Professionally, he has served both public and private higher education, national voluntary health agencies, and consultative services to nonprofits throughout North America.

Michael began his development career as an Account Executive with the United Way of New York City.   He then focused on Annual Giving as a specialty, first at Rutgers University and then at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. Michael moved into sales for IDC (a telemarketing operation), followed by Honorcraft Incorporated, a specialist in high-end donor recognition. While Vice President of Sales at Honorcraft Michael expanded the firm’s business by generating new clients in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Michael’s experience with campaigns includes the $250 Million inaugural Campaign for University of Buffalo where he served as Senior Director. Following that experience, Michael spent some time in Field Management with the National Office of the Arthritis Foundation, and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. He then served as a Vice President with the National Kidney Foundation. Michael returned to higher education as the Senior Director of Regional Advancement for the University of Rochester’s successful $1.2 Billion Meloria Challenge campaign. Most recently Michael served as the Associate Vice President for Major Gifts and Campaigns at Georgia Southern University and Chief Development Officer at Zaytuna College.

Michael has presented at several AFP and CASE Regional Conferences and at the annual GEAC conference. He is a former regional board member of both AFP and CASE. His presentation topics have included: Making the Case for Prospect Discovery Calling, New Techniques in Prospect Research and Unique Land Gifts. Michael also serves on the Alumni Board of Elmira College and chairs its Engagement Committee.

Michael is pleased to mentor many of his former staff and serves as an exemplar to both professionals and volunteers. He continually demonstrates his ability to establish credibility and build productive relationships within the C-suite and with key volunteers.
